Skin and your Nervous System
How your skin behaves when your nervous system is under pressure and why skincare alone often isn’t enough.
Your skin is deeply connected to how your body feels. Once part of the same special embryonic layer, the skin and the nervous system remain intertwined in life. Which means that no matter how good your skincare is, if your nervous system is under sustained pressure, your skin will probably reflect that.
What stress actually does to your skin
Stress can come from feeling emotionally out of alignment, from the physical demands placed on you, or simply from the pace of modern life constantly pulling at your attention. We cannot remove all stress (and a little pressure can be motivating) but when the body stays in a constant state of doing, cortisol and adrenalin remain elevated. This slows down repair and increases tension and inflammation throughout the body.
When everything feels urgent, skin renewal is not a priority for your body (fast thinking, heart rate and blood pumped to muscles is what your body is using energy on). If you spend a lot of time feeling this way, your skin receive less, your skin barrier becomes more reactive to products that once felt fine, or it can feel flat and dull. Facial muscles, fascia and connective tissues begin to hold additional tension, through the jaw, the forehead, around the eyes.
When you're stuck in a stress state, sleep, energy and digestion tend to feel off too. Maybe it's harder to switch off, or your version of relaxing is sitting down while your mind churns through the to-do list, scrolling until you feel less rested than when you started.
So we go beyond the surface of your skin.
Our focus is on settling your body and nervous system first, helping you to feel more grounded and reconnected to yourself. When your skin is massaged, receptors will signal relaxation restoration to your body, bringing a sense of ease and calm. This soothes your system and stimulates your circulation to renew and revitalise.
As your breath slows, your thoughts will begin to soften. From here, the systems that support your skin and your facial vitality can then begin to work in flow and that sense of internal harmony will start to be visible in your face again.
The Rosehip Ritual Approach
Through slow, considered touch, your body is guided into a place where it can soften. Your skin is deeply nourished as you step away from the noise of the world and reconnect inwards, allowing yourself to rest more fully.
Alongside your facial, I may work with the tension held at the base of your head and neck, softening through the shoulders, and gently along the spine or through the abdomen. Each movement is supported by stress-relieving aromatherapy, acupressure or reflexology, selected to meet you where you are, personalised just for you.
Paired with my signature sculpting and restorative facial techniques, I work with what is being held in your body, intuitively and responsively. Supporting not only your skin and facial vitality, but your mood, your sleep and the patterns of stress that sit beneath the surface of your skin.
Your skin is not separate from your life. When your body is supported, your skin has the space to repair, strengthen and glow in a way that is both natural and long-lasting.
